Logo Project

This project began with reading about how professionals create logos for companies. We then sketched many variations of ideas for our own projects. We chose our favorite and recreated it in Illustrator. The last step was to put our logos on various items to show how it would be used in the real world.

Final Happiness Video: Representation and Repercussions

Reflection

Throughout this project, I had the opportunity to learn a lot about lighting and angles and other video editing techniques. This, however, was not what really served me. The most important thing I learned did not have to do with digital art, but with conceptualization. This is something that I think is important to learn in all classes, as creating something from nothing is a difficult task, regardless of if it is a video or an essay or some other product. Working through this was a challenge for me, but I now feel more prepared to approach open-ended projects.

Project Description

This project was a way for us to learn to cope with ambiguity and open-ended tasks. It is likely that we will be asked to create a visual aide with little time or direction in our other classes, so it is beneficial to us to understand what that can mean and how we can make that our own.

Reflection

I used an online architectural design plan generator in order to create my project. I did this because it is much more effective than attempting to draw up plans in a system such as Photoshop or Illustrator, where nearly everything would have to be done by hand. One of the ideas from Humanities that I tried to incorporate was sameness. If you look closely at the picture, you can see that the design plans laid out are all the same, with one reversed. The Lego model is also made with the same layout, the roof left off so that you can look into individual spaces. I wanted everything to seem like it was all meant to be identical and the same for everybody, even in things such as housing. When we think of sameness, we often think of people being the same, but I wanted to convey how society forces them to be the same in all aspects of life. I think this project really helped me grow in independent thinking. I played around with a few different ideas before settling down on design plans, which I feel were a unique way of showing what I learned and took a lot of effort, because I had to find and learn a new program in order to create them.

Reflection

I came into this project having already had Photoshop experience, due to Digital Arts classes at my middle school. I also did five different tutorials during the tutorial project, which helped prepare my by allowing me to know more of the tools and how to use them. I think this definitely helped me throughout the process. I believe that that this project has allowed me to become more comfortable using different tools and aspects of Photoshop together to make them more effective. One example of this is the selection tools. There seem to be endless amounts of them-the marquee tools, the quick selection, magic wand, and magnetic lasso tools. I often found myself using multiple of them together to accomplish the best selection possible. I also believe that this project has helped me with perseverance, because I unfortunately missed a week of the class time for this project. I managed to use my remaining time and my time outside of class wisely and accomplish a successful product that I am proud of.

In this tutorial, I used the pen tool to select the eye, then played around with the hue/saturation to make it purple rather than blue.

I used the brush tool and a hue/saturation layer in order to make her hair this color.

In this tutorial, I used the pen tool to make a selection around the tooth I wanted to change, then used the warp tool to elongate the teeth.

Letter Portrait Project

This project was to teach us how to use certain aspects of photoshop and look at the world through the lens of art.  The first thing we did when making this was going outside to look for letters in things that were anything but that. This allowed us to change the way that we looked at the world. Next, we went into photoshop and refined the edges of our pictures to unify our various different pictures into a cohesive whole. After this, we put each photo into one document, where we spelled out our name.  Then we applied a filter to make it cohesive. If I had to do this project again, I would try to find more obvious letters so that you could read my name easier.
